We take todays name from Psalm 103, as we see that the Lord is our compassionate Father.
As a father shows compassion to his children,
so the Lord Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) shows compassion to those who fear him.
We are not alone, not spiritual orphans.
He promises, “I will not leave you as orphans.”
When we are unaware of God’s compassion, we can act as spiritual orphans, abandoned by God.
All comfort comes from God the Father, He is the source of it.
Compassion is love in action, love demonstrated.
Jesus showed compassion, He was often moved by it and acted in practical ways.
He fed people, healed them, opened their eyes, unstopped their ears, resurrected the dead, shepherded and delivered them and He will do it and does it for us.
He is the same yesterday, today and forever, He is the same God, doing the same things!
He meets our needs with compassion.
Compassion was often the motivator preceding Jesus’s miracles, I would go so far as to say, always.
We are compelled to action by compassion, it sets the captives free, it heals the sick, it lifts the fallen, it takes care of orphans and widows, clothes the naked, it watches over strangers with kindness.
Compassion meets people where they are at, what whatever position they are in and sees and meets their needs.
Lifted up, He sees what we can be.
Compassion sees the spiritual side of practical action.
He wants us to be a father to the fatherless and a mother to the motherless and share His comfort and compassion.
God is reliability, love, compassion and power combined.
This world can often interpret compassion as weakness, but it is not so with God.
Lord, help us to grow in compassion, in the acceptance of others, help us not to reject those who are different from us or turn them away from your Kingdom, because we see them as different.
Help us not to condone sin, but to invite dialogue with compassion and understanding, without compromise. True repentance produces humility and change, let’s facilitate that with God’s compassion.
