Continuing in our theme of finding God’s comfort and care in His Word and character, we see here how we can trust God with our worries and cares and find how He daily watches over us and lifts us up.

I thought this evening we might think profitably for a few moments on the subject of care; possibly a subject which doesn’t concern some of us very much, although the approaching exams might alter that lack of interest?!
I think sometimes that we are prone to forget what an insidious evil worry is.
You remember the parable of the Sower; the Word was choked by the care or worry of this world Matthew 6 v 22.
Not an instantaneous action, like being stolen away by the birds of the air, but a slow, but sure ousting of the Word by cares.
You remember, too, how Martha was so worried about serving, that she left Jesus.
Jesus’s gentle rebuke was; “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about a multitude of things, yet only one thing is needful.
Mary has chosen the good portion and she shall not be deprived of it.” Luke 4 41-42.
It should be typical of a man that he is never worried, not because he hasn’t got any worries, but because he has transferred the burden of his worries to God.
“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”
The man has, as it were, a formula for getting rid of worry.
If he is worried about anything he takes it to God in prayer.
He prays that whatever happens, God’s will may be done.
Then he says to himself, “Well, if God’s will is done, that’s just what I want and so I’ve got nothing to worry about.”
As Paul says to the Philippians, “Be full of care for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 5 v 6.
So let us cast all our cares upon Jesus, and lay them at the foot of the cross.
For He says, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 11.29.
