What’s the first question we normally ask when we meet someone?
Where are you from and what’s your name?
To truly get to know someone, you need to know their name and some basic details about them.
Knowing God is just the same!
Have you ever met someone who constantly called you by the wrong name?
It feels a little strange, doesn’t it?
Let’s introduce you to Yehovah – Messiah Pre-Incarnate!
What’s in a Name?
There’s power in His Name!
We constantly see throughout the New Messianic Version of the Bible by Messianic believer Tov Rose, the name of Yehovah and Messiah Pre-Incarnate being synonymous, not similar to, but exactly the same!
So we can conclude that Jesus (Yeshua) the Messiah incarnate on earth, is indeed Yehovah who we see throughout the scriptures.
The references are actually too many to list here, but I will give some examples.
If you read the NOG (Names of God) version (Biblegateway.com) he is listed as Yahweh.
If you read the NMV (New Messianic Version) he is referred to as the LORD Yehovah Messiah Pre-Incarnate, and who is Jesus but the Messiah incarnated in flesh on earth?!
Even the name Yehovah spelled in Hebrew letters with each letter refers us and points us to? JESUS! “Behold the Hand, Behold the Nail” it says!
No longer should this truth be veiled or chained, but released to his people as a source of strength.
The threads of who He is brought together in an unbreakable cord, as scripture says a three-fold cord is not easily broken!
To those who say that Jesus should not be worshipped, let us uncover this fallacy, as God himself points us to worship Him who has the nailed hand!
Who else could this be?!
Yehovah / Jehovah/ Yahweh / Yah / Adonai?
This word has the basic meaning of I am that I am “Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh”, initially spoken by God when He met Moses at the burning bush in Exodus 3.14-16:
14 And God-Elohim (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] said unto Moshe (Moses) [He Who Draws Out Of The Waters]: Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh [I am/will be what I am/will be] and he said, “Thus shall you say unto the people of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God]:
‘Ehyeh [I Am or I Will Be]…has sent me unto you.”
15 And God-Elohim (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] said moreover unto Moshe [He Who Draws Out Of The Waters], Thus shall you say unto the people of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God]:
[The LORD-Yehovah] of your fathers, the God-Elohim [Creator] of Avraham [Exalted Father], the God-Elohim [Creator] of Yitz’chak [Laughter], and the God-Elohim [Creator] of Ya’akov [Heal of God], has sent me unto you:
This is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.
16 Go, and gather the elders of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God] together, and say unto them, The LORD-Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) God-Elohim (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] of your fathers, the God-Elohim (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] of Avraham [Exalted Father], of Yitz’chak [Laughter], and of Ya’akov [Heal of God], appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and [seen] that which is done to you in Mitzrayim [Egypt – The Narrow Place]
This word is known as the Tetragrammaton.

God the Father and God the Son share one name, YHVH, but are differentiated by the use of different vowels in the Hebrew text.
Yehovah or Yahuwah?
The New Messianic Version (NMV) by Messianic believer Tov Rose, includes many Names of God, including Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate).
We see a perfect example of this below in Isaiah 52, clearly demonstrating the role of Yehovah as Messiah Pre-Incarnate and the instruction to worship Him in verses 8 – 10, 3 times.
The role of Adonai as God the Father is also made clear here.
There are in fact so many instances of this throughout this version that I would not be able to record them all here, but you can easily check and read for yourself in the Bible app NMV version.
Isaiah 52.3-10
3 This is what Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) says: You were sold, but no price was paid. You will be bought back, but without money.
4 This is what Adonai (Greatest Above All Things) God Yehovah (The Father) says: In the beginning my people went to Egypt to live there as foreigners.
Later the Assyrians oppressed them for no reason.
5 So what do I find here? asks Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate).
My people are taken away for no reason.
Their rulers are screaming, declares Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate).
And my name is cursed all day long.
6 Therefore my people will know my name.
When that day comes, they will know that I am the one who says, “Here I am!”
7 How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger
who announces the good news, “All is well.”
He brings the good news,
announces salvation,
and tells Zion that its God Elohim (The Living Word, the Many Powered) rules as king.
8 Listen! Your watchmen raise their voices
and shout together joyfully.
When Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) (Behold the Pierced Hand) brings Zion back,
they will see it with their own eyes.
9 Break out into shouts of joy, ruins of Jerusalem.
Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) (Worship the Pierced Hand) will comfort his people.
He will reclaim Jerusalem.
10 Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) (Worship the Pierced Hand) will show his holy power to all the nations.
All the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our Elohim (The Living Word, The Many Powered).
Other Bibles/Scriptures using Yehovah:
King James 1611 – Used throughout
Aleppo Codex – 1 Kings 8.11 – “The glory of Yehovah filled the house of Yeh-vah
Leningrad Codex – Genesis 9.26 – “And he said, “Blessed be Yehovah, the God of Shem, and let Canaan be their servant.””
The Crown Damascus – 1300 – 1399 Pentateuch – Genesis
Oriental – 9880 – 11th & 12th Century – National British Library – Leviticus 23.6
Yehvah
2,441 manuscripts refer to the name of God as Yehvah.
Jehovah
This name is the Latin progression of Yehovah, with the Y being replaced with a J in 1524 by translators and it was then implemented in the 1633 version of the King James Bible, in fact before this point, King James’s name itself was spelt with a Y in 1611! In fact in Hebrew, there is no J, which is why we see Yehovah, Yeshua and Yerushalayim.
Yahweh
The name Yahweh is not scholastically accepted, it is a modern spelling of a non existent word created by supposition as a substitute for the true name. (Tov Rose)
Wilhelm Gesenius connected this name to Egypt and Jupiter.
The Samaritans built a temple on Mount Gerrizim which they named the Temple of Jupiter Hellenius, after being challenged by the Greeks, who claimed that they were worshipping the God of Israel.
They denied this and built a temple in honour of Jupiter (who was also Zeus).
The Jewish scholar Maimonides said that, “The name Yahweh (which is a barbarism) has only been created to battle with the true name Jehovah (Yehovah). (ref The Name of God…It’s story – Tov Rose)
The Samaritan name for Jupiter, was Yoweh-piter, which was the Father of Yoweh, Jupiter not Yahweh.
Adonai
The name was and still is considered so sacred by the Jewish people that it was hidden for centuries so that it should not be known by unworthy people, due to its holiness and Adonai has been used in place of Yehovah, as a sign of respect.
But where did this ban on speaking the Divine Name of God come from? Tov Rose tells us that it began with the conquest of Israel in 168 BC, by the Seleucid Greek tyrant Antiochus IV Epiphanes. His policy was to Hellenize the Jewish people, turning them into Greek citizens. He also banned circumcision, Sabbath worship and he also required Israeli citizens to eat pork sacrificed to Zeus and Apollo, sound familiar?
In the New Messianic Version however, it is usually used to refer to God the Father, as seen below:
Daniel 9.19
O Lord-Adonai (The Father) [Greatest Above All Things] , hear; O Lord-Adonai (The Father), forgive; O Lord-Adonai (The Father) hearken and do; defer not, for your own sake, O my God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered]: for your city and your people are called by your name.
We have an example of this in Isaiah 3.17, where the tetragrammaton is written, but Adonai is pronounced.
Therefore the Lord Adonai (The Father) (Greatest Above All Things) will strike with a scab the crown of the head of the daughters of Tziyon and the Lord Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) will expose their private parts.
In Leviticus 24.16 of the Septugint it reads: “And the one cursing the Name of the Lord, let him be put to death”.
Another scroll reads: “Whoever enunciates the name which is honoured above all, whether blasphemy or suddenly overtaken by a misfortune, will be excluded and shall not go back ever to the Community Council”.
In the Mishna Abba Shaul (Father Shaul) said in the second century, “And these do not have a share in the world to come: One who says that there is no resurrection according to the Torah.
Abba Shaul says, “Also for those who pronounce the Name as it is written.”
So there is good reason for the Name having been replaced by Jewish scholars with Adonai, which actually translates as “My Lord”.
On the other hand, Rav Nahman Bar Yitzhak said, “The world to come is not like this world.
In this world God’s Name, which is written with Yod Hey (abbreviation for Yehovah) is read with Alef Dalet (abbreviation for Adonai).
However in the world to come it will all be one, God’s Name will be both read with Yod Hey (Yehovah) and written with Yod Hey (Yehovah).
There is no scribal note anywhere in scripture telling us to read YVHH as Adonai and it is not spelt the same.
In fact Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate is often written alongside Adonai (The Father), but Adonai is not usually considered a replacement for the same person.
Psalm 30 – I cried to you, O Lord Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate); and unto the Lord Adonai (The Father).
Yah
Yah is another name which is also commonly used and occurs throughout the New Messianic Bible, which also refers to the Messiah Pre-Incarnate, Jesus.
These scriptures also display the first part of the name Yeh (Yah) hovah (Yehovah), pointing us again to Jesus, the Crucified, Behold the Hand. We also see here God being referred to as Adonai.
However as Yah never takes on a suffix, Yahweh, Yahshua and Yahushua are all incorrectly formed words.
There is no such name as Yahshua, it did not exist in Biblical times and does not exist as a genuine Hebrew name in history. (Tov Rose)
People with a lack of Hebrew understanding made it up, thinking that it restored the name “Yah” into the Saviour’s name. (Tov Rose)
Yahushua is also not legitimate as Joshua was pronounced as Yehoshuah. (Tov Rose)
Psalms 150.1, 6
Praise you the Lord Yah (Behold the Hand) (Messiah Pre-Incarnate). Praise God El (The Creator) in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord Yah (Behold the Hand) (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) Praise you the Lord Yah (Behold the Hand) (Messiah Pre-Incarnate).
Psalms 68.5
A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God Yah (Behold the Hand) (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) in his holy habitation.
Psalms 130.3
If you, Lord Yah (Behold the Hand) (Messiah Pre-Incarnate), should mark iniquities, O Lord Adonai (Father) (Lord Above All Things), who shall stand?
Psalm 135.5
For I know that the Lord Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) is great, and that our Lord Adon (Lord of the Earth) is above all gods.
Making Sure the Name is Known (Tov Rose)
Exodus 3.15 tells us that His name is a memorial for all generations.
This was carried out in Israel by:
A public reading of the Name every seventh year before the whole congregation of Israel (Deuteronomy 31.11)
First Fruits Confession – every year from farmers, required to recite 6 names of God six times. (Deuteronomy 26.3-11)
The prophet Jeremiah was directed to teach non-Jewish people to swear using the Divine Name. If they did they would be considered as God’s people. (Jeremiah 12.16)
“When all mankind pronounces the Divine Name, God will then be King over all mankind.” (Zechariah 14.9)
“Those who call on God using His Divine Name will be saved in the end times.” (Joel 2.32)
Special reverence is attached to the Divine Name, because it represents and characterises the person of God.
God announced His Name and told His worshippers to use it, the same is still true today.
In Exodus 3.14 God first revealed His name to Moses and throughout Deuteronomy.
I am that I am –
The Name of God could be translated as;
The One who was,
The One who is,
The One who will be,
The Eternal One.
In John 8.58 and in Revelation 1.8, these descriptions are used by Jesus to describe himself.
They are not used to describe God the Father.
Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I am (John 8.58)
In Revelation 1.8 He says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End; Which was and is and is to come, the Almighty.”
One thing which is clear is that the Tetragrammaton points us to the Messiah, before His incarnation – the New Messianic Version constantly refers to Yehovah as “Messiah Pre-Incarnate”. Believers in Jesus (Yeshua) will know that this points directly to our Saviour, the One with the Name above every other Name.
Not only this, but it constantly links into other aspects of the Names of God, which we will cover in the future.
