God is My Refuge and My Strength, My Fortress – Yehovah Ma’ozi, My Stronghold,

Among the treasury of His promises, this is one of my favourites, most visited, where we are provided with protection and ammunition.

If the promises of God were a pantry or a shelf full of books, these would be some of the one I would go to the most, useful at all times.

A refuge under every attack, when we access them, we can place our families in this place of refuge and safety.

If you are feeling under attack at any time, He is where we can take refuge.

I remember when I was at college, there was a bunker from WW2 in the grounds, where they would have sheltered in the war during air raids, God is that protection for us.

As the hymn says, “A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing, our helper He amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.”

In Psalm 144.2 He is my loving kindness, my fortress,
my high tower, and my deliverer,
my Magen (shield), and the one in whom I take refuge.

Flee from False Refuges

Psalm 46.1

Elohim (The Living Word, the Many Powered) is our refuge, shelter, hope, trust and strength,
an ever-present help in times of trouble.

God is within her, He will help her at break of day, with no delay. (Psalm 46.4-6)

The Lord is ready to help us, without delay, we can have joy in troubles knowing that His help is coming.

Our refuge is in Christ, He is our soul’s shelter, He is ever present, waiting for us to turn to Him.

Stripped of our own strength, we come to rely on the Lord for strength.

We must flee from and cast aside all false refuges, because God is our refuge, not our bank account, our job, our family, our circumstances, pride or our own strength, where do we turn when these fail?

Do we run to houses built by human hands, or to the stronghold of God, our fortress?

We can live with Him and have fellowship with Him in the refuge of His presence, He is our shelter and inner strength.

All other things we take refuge in are a delusion, to keep us from placing our full trust in God.

Some boast in horses, some in chariots, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.

In Psalm 46.10 we learn to cease striving and know that He is God and to be still.

We need only to be still and see the salvation of the Lord.

Faith is the refusal to panic, because there is no panic in heaven, only plans.

God’s plans for us are good and He can do abundantly more than we can ask or think, in the smallness of our own minds we limit our perception of God’s ability and when He answers it can be surprisingly bigger than we think!

God has never been surprised by any circumstance, therefore we have reason to be anxious or fearful, for what can man do to us?

In Psalm 62.1-2 we are told to wait calmly for Elohim (The Living Word, the Many Powered) alone, my soul,
because our hope comes from him.

He alone is my rock and my salvation —my stronghold.

We cannot be shaken if we hold onto Him.

We shall not be shaken if we are resting in the stronghold of the Lord while He exalts His name and works out His purposes.

He sets us high upon a rock, behind watchtowers and high walls and thick doors.

Surely we will not be shaken even though we are assaulted by slings and arrows from the enemy, we will not be shaken if we stand firm on Him.

We can face adversity and uncertainty and rejoice because we have peace in God.

In Psalm 121 God watches over us as our protective shade.

We can trust in Him at all times.

Psalm 34.7 says that the angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him, giving us protection wherever we are, so that whether we are in the open, on the move, He is with us.

He is our refuge in the day of affliction.

He has become our rock of refuge.

He is a stronghold for the oppressed, He has not forgotten them.

He is the strength of the poor and needy in distress and a refuge from the storm.

He is the strength and saving refuge of His anointed.

He is the place where the defenceless find refuge

He is our strong confidence, therefore we trust in Him at all times and pour out our heart before Him.

He is our refuge and our portion.

He gives us strength and the resources to endure, some breakthroughs can take time, but He teaches us to wait through hardship, teaching us to stay in hope.

During these uncertain times, we can press into Him and know that He goes before us.
