Before we go on to look at other testimonies in our spiritual lives, it is important to lay a foundation and go through in order the primary foundational Names of God.

I was first introduced at my baptism in the Holy Spirit, to God the Father, but other names come before Him in our introduction to Him in the Bible.

The first seven names in Genesis are 1. Elohim, 2. Yehovah, 3. Adonai, 4. El Elyon, 5. El Shaddai, 6. Yehovah Tza’va’ot, 7. I am that I am and so we will study them in that order.

We are introduced to Elohim first in the Bible, right from the beginning in Genesis 1, as the Eternal Creator, the Living Word, the Many Powered.

Genesis

1 In the beginning God Elohim (The Living Word of God) created heaven and earth.

The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep water. And the Spirit of God Ruach Elohim (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) was hovering over the water.

I believe that it is no coincidence that our Jesus is also named, The Living Word, but that they are one and the same and so everything starts and ends with Him, the Beginning and the End!

From the very beginning of the Bible, in Genesis 1.1, we see Jesus the Messiah Pre-Incarnate, involved and identified right from the beginning, starting with creation, as the Spirit of God Elohim, Messiah Pre-Incarnate.

Here we see the fullness of the Trinity displayed and working together.

In Deuteronomy 6.4, we see that the Lord is One

Hear, O Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God]: The Lord-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) our God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] [is] one Lord-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate)

Jesus is Messiah Pre-Incarnate, the Lamb of God who was slain BEFORE the foundation of the world, before creation, his plan was already in place!

The fall of mankind was no surprise to God, but knowing in advance, he made provision for it, for us, in his plan of salvation.

We see Jesus, the Messiah Pre-Incarnate throughout the Bible, before he came to earth, incarnate in Jesus.

We see repeatedly, “Behold the Hand, behold the nailed”, God telling us, “Behold the Lamb of God slain before the foundation of the world!” “Look for and behold the pierced One! Worship Him!”

Isaiah 52.8-9

Your watchmen raise their voices
    and shout together joyfully.
When the Lord Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) (Behold the Pierced Hand) brings Zion back,
they will see it with their own eyes.
Break out into shouts of joy, ruins of Jerusalem.
For The Lord Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) (Worship the Pierced Hand) has comforted his people.
        He has redeemed Jerusalem.

10 The Lord Yehovah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) (Worship the Pierced Hand) will show his holy power to all the nations.
All the ends of the earth will see the salvation of our God Elohim (The Living Word, The Many Powered).

12 For you shall not go out with haste, nor go by flight: for the Lord-Yehōvah (Messiah Pre-Incarnate) (Worship the Pierced Hand) will go before you; and the God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] of Yisra’el [He Holds Onto The Heel Of God] [will be] your rearguard.

Jesus, the name above every other name has been with us from the beginning, he has never left us to figure things out on our own!

He is walking with us, leading us to our promised land, our green pastures, our eternal home.

We may have to walk through valleys on the way, we will all walk through the valley of death at some point, but he is with us and will not forsake us, not one of us will be lost from his hand if we cleave to him.

He gave us road markers on the way, he Himself is the way, our road-map.

Behold the nailed hand!

He states it clearly throughout His Word, he Himself is the Word, the Way, the Truth and the Life!

God is first revealed to us in the Bible as Elohim.

He was then referred to as Yehovah, which until recent years was thought to be pronounced as Yahweh, as the true pronunciation had been considered so sacred that it was hidden, we shall look at this in a future study.

And then as Adonai.

It is possible to know God as Elohim and not know Yehovah. We need to take everything to Him (Elohim), because nothing is impossible for Him.

Elohim is a title rather than a name.

Elohim is plural, He has a role as a sustainer.

He is God, the mighty, supreme judge, exceeding our expectations.

He is the true God.

This title describes rulers, divine ones, a deity, the Supreme One, a powerful ruler, powerful God, the One who existed before anything existed.

He is the Strong and mighty One.

He is God in power to create.

He spoke creation into being – Jesus is King of Kings, Elohim of Elohim

He is God above all other Gods.

Jesus is the Son who has always been in the bosom of the Father, there is relationship in God, dialogue between Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Ruach Elohim).

Elohim – “Nothing is too difficult for thee” – Yehovah Elohim – not general Elohim (spirits).

We are to magnify Him.

God is not small.

He creates something out of nothing.

He is alive, active and involved.

Yehovah is Chief – Elohim of Elohim, there is no Elohim besides Yehovah.

No other spiritual being compares to Him, because only He is the ruler and creator of all things.

He is the Head of the Divine Council – the Sons of God are organized and ordered, rulers and authorities, the Hosts of Heaven (sun, moon and stars) celebrate God’s authority.

God wants to share His authority with others, human and heavenly.

Satan and demons and angels were part of the divine council, He has authority over them, He is Elohim of Elohim.

Jesus was there to confront and overcome all rebel powers and authorities.

By giving up His life Jesus disarmed the powers and authorities. Our weapon is the Word of God.

All the power in the universe belongs to Elohim our creator.

Jesus is Yehovah and God – Elohim.

He is Tzelem Elohim – the Image of God.

The Holy Spirit is the Ruach Elohim – the Spirit of God.

Often shortened to “El” his name is the root and base of all the other names with the prefix of “El”

Psalm 23 is hidden in His name –

God Elohim (el-o-heem’)

אֱלהִים

AThe ‘Aleph’ is the picture of an ox head and illustrates the strength of an animal. It can mean strong, power, or leader. God’s strength. God the Father.
lThe ‘Lamed’ is a picture of a shepherd’s staff. The shepherd used the staff to exercise authority over the sheep to direct or lead them. It can mean teach, lead, yoke, move forward, or authority. The voice of authority. The Good Shepherd – the Son of God.
hThe ‘Hey’ pictograph represents a man with his hands in the air trying to get someone’s attention. It suggests look, reveal, behold. Grace, behold, man. Holy Spirit, revelation.
yThe ‘Yud/Yod’ in pictograph form represents an arm and a hand. The picture can mean work, throw, worship or it can simply mean arm or hand. My hand or efforts. Mighty works.
MThe ‘Mem’ illustrates water or waves, liquid streams of water, nations. As a nomadic people, the Hebrews did not understand the waves or waters of the ocean. So the letter came to mean chaos, mighty, or blood. A mighty deed that separates the waters.

Look! The strong Shepherd gives us passage from raging waters into still waters. Elohim is used to denote both the one true God and the lesser gods.

The Strong Shepherd reveals his hand on the waters.

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want – Elohim.

God the Father, the Son speaks with authority, the Holy Spirit who reveals – creation – Father, Son and Holy Spirit all active in the creation.

The Significance of Numbers in the Name Elohim

Aleph’s numerical value is number 1 this denotes deity, unity, sufficiency, independence, the first, indivisible and God the Father.

Lamed’s numerical value is 30 representing the Blood of Christ!

Dedication – 3 x 10 =30 – the number of divine perfection & worldly perfection, blood sacrifice – magnified perfection.

Hey’s numerical value is 5 representing unmerited favour, the Pentateuch (first 5 books of the Old Testament), divine strength, God’s goodness and grace.

Yod’s numerical value is 10 and represents ordinal perfection, the perfection of divine order, completeness of order, the law and responsibility.

Mem’s numerical value is 40 and represents trials, chastisement, but not judgement, action of grace, resulting in renewal, magnified renewal and extended period of rule and dominion, grace multiplied by renewal.

God the Father, the Blood of Christ, perfection, unmerited favour, God’s goodness and grace, completeness, renewal and grace.

Alphabetical meaning

Aleph – Father

Lamed – Divine order working along with a blood sacrifice

Hey – grace

Yod – perfection of divine order

Mem – action of grace that results in revival & probationary period of renewal.

Interpretation –

God the Father will bring about deliverance by His Anointed One (Jesus) and by His grace bring about a divinely ordained plan, testing man to show his weakness and then reviving and renewing man and by His Spirit, creating new life in him and promising him eternal life.

God the Son offers a blood sacrifice to atone for the rebellion of mankind. God the Holy Spirit creates new life for those who receive the Saviour and look to His work on the cross, as the only path to the promise that Jesus, the Son is preparing a place for us in heaven.

As Psalm 99.9 says, let us exalt the Lord our God, Yehovah, our Messiah Pre-Incarnate, our God Elohim, the Living Word;

Exalt the Lord-Yehōvah [Messiah Pre-Incarnate] our God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] , and worship at his holy hill; for the Lord-Yehōvah [Messiah Pre-Incarnate] our God-Elōhīm (The Living Word) [The Many Powered] [is] holy.
